  2. What is your 2011 New Year’s Resolution?

I’m curious to find out what everyone is hoping to accomplish this next year as a “New Year’s Resolution”. Maybe it is to finally drop those extra 15-20 pounds you’ve been carrying around for far too long. Maybe it is to get out of debt. Maybe you want to stop smoking. Whatever it is, here is some quick advice that can help you stick to it.

    1. Write it down and post in a prominent location

This is GOALS 101. People who write down their goals and review them regularly are far more likely to follow through on them. Sometimes setting smaller goals can help you achieve larger goals. For example, let’s say your 2011 New Year’s Resolution is to stop smoking. Write down the goal but then break it up into smaller written goals. So, instead of “Quit smoking in 2011″ you write something like: “1a. – Reduce daily cigarette consumption to 3 per day by Jan. 31st. 1b. – Reduce daily cigarette consumption to 1 per day by Feb. 28th. 1c. – Stop smoking cigarettes completely by March 31st.” Now paste that somewhere you’ll see everyday like the refrigerator, bathroom mirror or dashboard in your car.

    2. Get support

If you tell other people what you are trying to accomplish with your 2011 New Year’s Resolution you’ll be held accountable. Let’s say you want to save money. Well, that is too vague. What do you want to save money on? You’ll need a budget. Pick something easy to start with like saving on car insurance or saving on groceries or saving on going out to eat. Now tell people what you are going to do. That way if they see you out at a restaurant they’ll call you on it – “I thought you said you were trying to save money!”

    3. Don’t give up

Stopping something you are addicted to is a WAR not a battle. You can lose a battle here and there and still win a war. If you fall down and slip up, pick yourself back up and start again. You can do it. Just don’t give up. The only time you’ll fail is when you finally fail to try anymore.

What is your 2011 New Year’s Resolution? Post in the comments!

This blog is about saving money! Finding deals and discounts. So, it is with that in mind that I am going to attempt to build my own solar water heater! I am going to attempt this because, according the site where I’m getting the plans, I can do this for under $70 AND I can save up to 33% off on my electricity bill. ( plus the dude is going to give me a 60 day money back guarantee so I really don’t have anything to lose).  My plan is to get this built ( or maybe one of the other energy saving guides that come with it ) and then report back here on my actual savings.

    Stay tuned!

  4. Review: Groupon – Similar to Woot.com but better (IMO)

    Coupons, Food, Other, Store Discount

Hello All! I just got turned on to Groupon.com….and I like it! Thanks Ally!

    What is Groupon?

Each day, Groupon features an unbeatable deal on the best stuff to do, see, eat, and buy in your city. By promising businesses a minimum number of customers, we get discounts you won’t find anywhere else. We call it “collective buying power!”

The “in your city” is what I really like about Groupon.

Visit the site, and then at the top check the city you are in. As you’ll see below, since I am in Dallas, I see a crazy deal for the day for Dallas:

Today’s deal for Dallas is/was: $99 for Six Laser Hair-Removal Treatments on Two Areas of the Body at Texas Laser Clinic in Frisco (Up to $1,275 Value). That is a pretty good deal even though it doesn’t apply to me.

Too bad I didn’t live in:

Boston: $75 for an Executive Room and Dinner for Two at Radisson Castle Nashua (Up to $243.34 Value)
Orlando: $15 for $30 Worth of Casual Fare at O’Charley’s
Colorado Springs: $25 for $75 Worth of Wine from Wine Insiders’ Online Store
Toronto: $25 for $50 Worth of Elegant Eats and Drinks at Bloom Restaurant

Go check it out now and LEAVE A COMMENT if you score a great deal! The best comment this month will win a special prize!
